The S.A.K. Club was organized in 1899 and federated in 1901. Pomeroy became a study club member in 1918 and although we are no longer federated, we still meet monthly. Although many of the meetings occur in Pomeroy, sometimes the venue takes the members to nearby communities to experience something new. The S.A.K. Club presently has seventeen members.
Each month assigned members are responsible for presenting a program that promotes the purpose of the organization, which is “Searching After Knowledge. S.A.K.” The meeting always begins with recitation of the Club Collect and “Roll Call” when the members are asked to share something that relates to the program that will be presented at the meeting. Club dues are used for community projects including adopting a needy family in the community at Christmas time and help provide gifts and food for the holidays. S.A.K. members also periodically donate to a local food pantry. They have donated to local fundraising projects and school projects and have even given scholarships to graduates in years past. The organization is far less structured than in previous years, but the members still leave each meeting having learned something new. Anyone from Pomeroy and the surrounding communities is welcome to join the S.A.K. Club. For more information regarding who to contact to join this organization, please call the City Clerk at City Hall.
